Characters

Tally: She is courageous and daring. She's a very trustworthy person for most of the book. Shay: She is daring, loves to pull pranks and resents the operation. David:Likes Tally and thinks that she is prettier than Shay. He was raised in the wild with his parents, Maddie and Az.

Setting

Uglies takes place in the future. You can tell it takes place in the future because they get around by using hoverboard and at they of 16 they get an operation that turns them pretty.
Smoke: The smoke is where people run away to when they don't want to turn pretty.
New Pretty Town: New Pretty Town is where the new pretties go after the operation.

Problem

The problem in the story is that Tally is finally sixteen and wants to be turned pretty but she has to betray the smoke by setting of a tracker when she gets there or she will never be able to turn pretty.

Point of View

The story is told in third person. The whole story is about Tally and her journeys.

Plot

Tally's new friend, Shay has ran away to the Smoke. And Special Circumstances is not letting Tally turn pretty unless she finds Shay and helps the Specials destroy the Smoke. Tally wants to turn pretty but Shay is her best friend and she doesn't know what to do.

Climax

Tally has to either betray the smokies and become pretty, or join the smokies and be ugly forever.

Resolution

Tally returns to Uglieville and is turned pretty.

Author's Message

The lesson of this story is
to just be yourself, that you are different in your own special way. It would be boring if we were all the same. Thats why we are all unique.
